Yea and no, imho. I think you have to take the companies into consideration. If you apply at FAANG or similar companies, you will have a high competition among highly skilled applicants. So recruiters there can afford to be picky.

But what about smaller companies? Or companies which are just about to build their own Data Warehouse/Lake/YouNameIt (b/c they are not eCommerce)? With further digitalization the demand for Data-People rises in more sectors. Hence you might have better chances to be hired there and still get a good compensation (probably not as high as at FAANG, though).

So if you really want to start working in this field, don’t ignore the smaller companies or the ones which might not be all-digital right now.
