I agree with Cyndi Johnson that ppl. should also look at the Data Engineering roles. But judging from other articles on Medium my hypothesis is that most Data Scientists often don’t want the more technical roles. It seems that Data Science is all about the fancy ML algorithms and prestige. And they often seem to hate using SQL and querying Databases, which is essential for Data Engineering.

From this I think the majority of the ppl. will come from Computer Science and Software Engineering.
